Octagon & Dodecagon Barrels

We also offer Octagon barrels for your lever
action, single shot or bolt action rifles. Your octagon can
be a tapered octagon, 1/2 round 1/2 octagon, straight octagon
or a 2 step octagon. We have also added Dodecagons to our line
up (see image above). This is a 12 sided barrel that gives you
both an octagon and round contour feel in the same barrel.
Octagon barrels vary quite a bit from manufacturer
to manufacturer in their dimensions.
When ordering an octagon or
dodecagon barrel please submit as detailed dimensions as possible.
This includes overall length including section for threading,
what type of firearm it is going on, measurement across the
flats at the breech and muzzle ends, length of octagon section
if doing a 1/2 round 1/2 octagon, length of wedding ring at
the front of the receiver (if required), diameter of round section
at end of octagon and at muzzle end on 1/2 round 1/2 octagons.
Fluted Barrels

Fluting is another option for
your round barrel. We offer either 6 or 8 flutes on our barrels
as standard. 6 flutes are more typical of what you would see
on a factory rifle and allows us to make the flutes a little
wider than 8 flutes. Please keep in mind that for safety we
will only flute certain contour/caliber combinations. Typically
a #3 Regular Sporter type contour in a small caliber is the
minimum diameter we would go. There is a lot of questions out
there regarding fluting and what it actually does for you. Here's
a basic low-down on fluting. Fluting increases the surface area
on your rifle barrel which helps in the cooling. It only removes
ounces from the weight of your barrel, not pounds. A good rule
of thumb is that fluting your barrel will usually bring its
weight down to the next contour size. Fluting does not make
your barrel stiffer. This is a misconception out there. Here's
an example: A #4 contour that is not fluted will be stiffer
than a #4 that is fluted. A #4 that is fluted will be stiffer
than a #3 contour that is not.
Crowns
Part of the finishing touches on your rifle
barrel is its crown. The crown is a very important part of the
accuracy of your rifle. A damaged crown can cause your accuracy
to suffer. Below are the standard crowns that we offer. Crowning
is an addition to the contoured blank cost.
